About the 2026 Latornell Theme
Powered By Purpose: Strong Watershed, Strong Communities
Water connects us — across landscapes, sectors, and communities. It sustains ecosystems, supports local economies, and shapes the places where we live, work, and gather. As Ontario faces increasing environmental, social, and economic pressures, the need for collaborative, purpose-driven action has never been greater.
The 2026 Latornell Conservation Symposium theme, Powered by Purpose: Strong Watersheds, Strong Communities, recognizes the shared commitment that drives meaningful conservation and watershed management across the province. From climate resilience and sustainable development to habitat restoration, agricultural stewardship, Indigenous leadership, and community engagement, progress happens when people come together with a common purpose.
This year’s symposium will acknowledge 80 years of achievements since the passage of the Conservation Authorities Act in 1946 while exploring how science, innovation, partnerships, and collective action are strengthening watersheds and building healthier, more resilient communities for generations to come. By connecting diverse perspectives and practical solutions, Latornell 2026 will highlight the people, ideas, and initiatives helping shape a sustainable future for Ontario.
