2025 Call for Abstracts
We are proud to celebrate 30 Years of Conservation Impact, marking three decades of the Latornell Conservation Symposium as a vital forum for Conservation Authorities, environmental leaders, practitioners, and advocates dedicated to watershed management.
In recognition of this milestone, we invite you to join us as a presenter at this year’s event. Your submission should align with at least one of the following goals:
- Showcase the lasting influence of conservation efforts over the past three decades.
- Celebrate leaders, projects, and policies that have made a significant difference in conservation.
- Reflect on how early conservation goals have transformed into tangible, measurable impacts.
- Encourage continued action to address today’s pressing environmental challenges. We invite you to share your story, offer your expertise, and present practical projects related to any of the following area topics.
Submission Details
We invite you to submit your abstract in the following Conservation Service Areas.
- Integrated Watershed Planning and Science
Example: Your new watershed
plan and why it matters. - Integrated Shoreline Management Planning and Science
Example: No bluffing: Shoreline management plan successes and challenges. - Source Water Protection
Example: Solutions for Risk Management Plans, case studies. - Agricultural Outreach and Support
Example: Partnerships, projects and successes in agricultural environmental stewardship (i.e. Environmental Farm Plans and restoration). - Geographic Information Systems and Information Management
Example: Innovations in information management and remote sensing to support environmental decision-making and hazard risk evaluation. - Water Quality and Quantity Monitoring and Modelling
Example: Integration of climate change models in monitoring initiatives. - Flood and Erosion Control and Prevention
Example: Flood Spill Areas and Safe Access: how we crossed the road safely. - Land Use Planning and Regulation
Example: Partnerships and collaborations to build safe and healthy communities with updated planning and regulation policy documents and case studies. - Natural Heritage Protection
Example: Wetlands matter more than ever and here’s how we are working to protect them. - Terrestrial and Aquatic Ecosystem Monitoring
Example: How monitoring ecosystem health over time drives conservation actions and tracks successes. - Watershed Stewardship and Restoration
Example: We restored this precious jewel in our community and the agricultural community showed up to help in unexpected ways. - Conservation and Outdoor Education
Example: Innovations and ideas to inspire the next generation of environmental leaders. - Lands and Conservation Areas
Example: Connecting communities to nature. - People and Leadership
Example: Here’s how my organization thrives in a world of hybrid meetings and builds up new staff well. - You decide! (Add your creative ideas to the discussions.)
We welcome a variety of presentation formats for the 2025 Latornell Conservation Symposium. Whether you prefer to lead a traditional session or facilitate an interactive workshop, we encourage diverse approaches that will engage attendees and foster meaningful dialogue.
STANDARD PRESENTATION
- 20-minute presentation with 10 minutes for Q&A.
- Two speakers per presentation maximum.
- Engaging in long-form verbal presentations with supporting materials and/or visual aids.
NEW – POP-UP STORM
- Interested in a short, fun, and informal presentation format? Read on…
- We are excited to introduce and receive proposals for Pop-up Storm, a “talk less, show more” presentation format that uses visual storytelling to illustrate an idea, concept, or project. We are excited to see how you’ll illustrate and present your idea in 10 minutes or less by captivating attendees with compelling visuals that bring conservation impact to life. *Pop-up Storms is the Latornell Conservation Symposium’s interpretation of the well-known Pecha Kucha.
- Presenters will be required to present their idea, concept, or project in a maximum of 10 minutes using 20 slides that feature images only.
PANEL
- A group of 3-5 experts.
- Moderated by a facilitator.
- A moderated conversational discussion.
WORKSHOP
- Facilitated, hands-on, and interactive.
- Opportunity for multiple presenters.
- Generally longer time allocations in the schedule.
WEBINAR
- Delivered throughout the year either before or after the Symposium event.
- 1.5-2 hours in duration.
STUDENT POSTER
- Open to undergraduate or graduate environmental science students.
- Showcase a research project with a one-page poster at the Symposium.
- Cash prizes for the top three posters.
Please complete the online submission form, ensuring all required fields are filled in accurately. Abstracts will be evaluated based on their relevance to this year’s theme, Celebrating 30 Years of Conservation Impact.
